Mulling Musicals

Whenever I tell people that I like musical theatre, I'm faced with the inevitable follow-up question: "Do you act/dance/sing?"

My answer is a resounding no.

Despite my lack of god-given talent, musical theatre occupies more of my life than it probably should.

You can read my daily musings here.

Broadway jumps on the ”Shit ____ Says” bandwagon with Shit Liza Minnelli Says. And it’s spot on. Completely blown away by the impersonation.

Has anyone heard of the off-Broadway show Ordinary Days? I was introduced to this song, “I’ll Be Here”, recently at a revue of off-Broadway songs and it had me on the verge of tears.

This song - and Lisa Brescia’s rendition - is stunning.

Can someone please explain the quick change at 2:55?! Mind. Boggled.

Is there a secret costume compartment in the umbrella? Is it magnets?

“Show Off” from The Drowsy Chaperone (60th Tony Awards performance)

If you post Broadway, reblog this. I’ll follow you!

I was fortunate enough to watch Idina perform this song live this past week. She filmed her upcoming PBS special here in Toronto (set to air March 3, 2012). It’ll be recorded for a live CD and DVD release - can’t wait! The set list is here

My current showtune obsession is a little odd. But I think it’s cute.

“I Know It’s Today” - from Shrek: The Musical

I watched a local production of RENT earlier this week (Fallen Rock Productions; Bathurst Street Theatre). It reminded me of how much I love the music of this show. Finale B is a perfect summation of the message in this musical and remains my favourite number.

Forget regret, or life is yours to miss. No other road, no other way… NO DAY BUT TODAY.

I’m currently in LOVE with Adele’s “Someone Like You”… but I can’t help but be reminded that this is the first song with that title that I fell in love with.

From Jekyll & Hyde, sung by Coleen Sexton.

Les Miserables + flash mob? Yes please.

Polish flash mob of “One Day More” from Les Miserables. I don’t understand a word but it’s still epic.

So stoked for this show! What an all-star cast - fantastic to see familiar faces from both the stage and screen. I’m most excited to see Megan Hilty do her thing.
